PSG Request Fixture Change Ahead of Liverpool Quarter-final

Paris St-Germain has sought a postponement of its Ligue 1 encounter against Lens, which was scheduled for the day after the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.

PSG are scheduled to play at Lens on Saturday, 11 April. This match falls three days after they host Liverpool and three days before the second leg at Anfield.

Liverpool will host Fulham in the Premier League on 11 April.

Lens, aiming for its first league title since 1998, responded to PSG’s request by strongly opposing any postponement of the match.

Lens added that their domestic league risks being “gradually relegated to the status of an adjustment variable at the whim of the European imperatives of some”.

“Beyond this specific case, the question raised is a more fundamental one: that of the respect due to the competition itself,” a club statement said.

“For one is entitled to wonder when, on its own soil, the league sometimes seems to be relegated to second place behind other ambitions, however legitimate they may be.”

A spokesperson for PSG told the media that “this type of rescheduling has been carried out regularly by the LFP in the past for the benefit of French clubs” and “in no way calls the league into question”.

They added that “the performances of French clubs competing on the European stage benefit French football as a whole, with France currently in 6th place in the UEFA coefficient rankings for the 2025-26 season.”

Lens, who are currently second and just one point behind PSG, repeated their opposition to postponing the match after their 5-1 win over Angers, according to head coach Pierre Sage.

When PSG last played Chelsea in the Champions League, their match against Nantes was postponed to give them more preparation time. PSG then won the tie 8-2 on aggregate.

The final decision will be made by the LFP, which has said it wants to support French clubs playing in European competitions.

The LFP also confirmed that Strasbourg has asked to postpone their match at Brest that same weekend, since it falls between their Conference League games against Mainz.
