Ghana’s Group L rivals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Panama, faced a night to forget as they were swept aside 6-2 by five-time world champions Brazil in a Sunday international friendly.
This heavy defeat unfolded as both teams sharpened their preparations for the World Cup, set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Brazil made a flying start at the iconic Maracanã Stadium, with Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior opening the scoring just one minute into the contest. Panama responded in the 39th minute when an own goal by Matheus Cunha brought them level.
However, Casemiro, who had earlier set up Vinicius’ goal, restored Brazil’s advantage before halftime, giving the hosts a narrow lead heading into the break.
After halftime, Carlo Ancelotti’s side seized total control, piling on four more goals and leaving Panama with no way back.
Rayan, Lucas Paquetá, Igor Thiago, and Danilo each found the net as Brazil wrapped up a commanding win, with Carlos Harvey grabbing a late consolation for Panama.
Panama must now regroup and focus on the World Cup, where they share Group L with Ghana, England, and Croatia. Their journey begins against the Black Stars on June 17 in Canada.
Brazil, meanwhile, is in Group C with Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland and will kick off their tournament against the Atlas Lions.
