Mexico name 20-man squad for Ghana friendly

The Mexico national football team have announced a 20-man squad for their upcoming international friendly against the Black Stars as preparations ramp up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match, set for May 22 in Mexico, forms a key part of both teams’ final preparations ahead of the tournament next month, offering an opportunity for the technical teams to evaluate tactics, player combinations, and overall readiness.

Head coach Javier Aguirre has assembled a well-balanced squad that blends experienced players with emerging talents. Notable inclusions include Jesús Gallardo, Israel Reyes, Brian Gutiérrez, and Alexis Vega.

As one of the tournament’s host nations, Mexico will use the fixture as a competitive tune-up before opening their World Cup campaign against the South Africa national football team on June 11.

Facing Ghana is also viewed as a valuable test against African opposition ahead of the global showpiece.
