Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah is determined to lead his team to AFCON glory in 2025.
The Falcons of Jediane are in Group D, alongside Algeria, Burkina Faso, and Equatorial Guinea.
Ahead of the tournament’s kickoff in Morocco this weekend, Appiah made it clear that mere participation is not enough.
“The goal is not just to participate but to fight for the trophy. I believe with the right mentality, we can achieve it. There’s no point in going to the competition if you don’t aim to win,” he told Akoma FM.
Appiah addressed the challenge of their group rivals, stressing the importance of confidence over intimidation.
“We respect them, but we will not fear them. If you go into games thinking about names like Messi or Ronaldo, you lose the battle mentally before it begins.”
The Sudanese team kicks off its AFCON run against Algeria’s Fennec Foxes on Wednesday, December 24, at Moulay Hassan Stadium. They will play Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, December 28, at Stade Mohammed V, and then finish the group stage against Burkina Faso on Wednesday, December 31, at the same location.
This tournament marks Sudan’s return to Africa’s premier football stage, following their earlier group stage exit in Cameroon.
