CAF suspends PSG star Achraf Hakimi for two matches

Achraf Hakimi, the dynamic Morocco and PSG star, faces a two-game suspension from the Confederation of African Football after his unsporting actions in the high-stakes 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.

In the heat of the final at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, Hakimi snatched Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s towel and hurled it into the cheering crowd.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year, alongside teammate Ismail Saibari, made sure the towel never found its way back to Senegal’s keeper.

After reviewing the incident, CAF issued disciplinary action against the Moroccan full-back. Hakimi must serve a one-match ban right away, while the second is held in reserve for a year and comes into effect only if he repeats his offense.

CAF issued a statement announcing the suspension of Moroccan National Team player Mr. Achraf Hakimi for two official CAF matches. One of these matches is suspended for a year, effective from the decision date, for unsporting behavior.
