Aliou Cissé has resigned as head coach of the Libyan national football team, calling his time in charge an “incredibly enriching” experience.
The former Senegal manager announced his resignation on Instagram after a friendly match against Liberia. He thanked the players, staff, and supporters, and said he was proud of the progress made despite the challenges.
Cissé was appointed by the Libyan Football Federation in March 2025 and managed 10 matches, with three wins, five draws, and two losses. He improved the team’s tactics, but the results were inconsistent.
Off-field issues also affected his time as coach, including reports of late salary payments and administrative issues. While some of the back pay had recently been settled, one month’s salary remained unpaid when he left.
