Tunisia triumphed 3-1 over Uganda in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener on Tuesday, powered by Elias Achouri’s dazzling two-goal performance.
The Carthage Eagles burst out of the gates, seizing the lead within ten minutes. Hannibal Mejbri’s corner whipped chaos into Uganda’s box, setting up Ellyes Skhiri to nod the ball in off the left post and put Tunisia in front.
In this pulsating Group C encounter, Tunisia refused to let up and struck again just five minutes before halftime. Ali Abdi spotted Achouri drifting into open space, and the forward unleashed a thunderous first-time shot that soared into the top right corner, freezing the goalkeeper in place.

Achouri struck again midway through the second half to put the result beyond doubt. Reacting instantly inside the box, the winger latched onto a rebound and rifled the ball into the right corner, completing his brace and making it 3-0.
Uganda managed to pull one back in stoppage time through Denis Omedi, whose effort from inside the box took a deflection on its way past the goalkeeper.
Yet the Cranes’ late surge was not enough, as they ultimately succumbed 3-1 when the final whistle blew.
This emphatic win propels Tunisia’s AFCON 2025 campaign, lifting them to the summit of Group C, level on points with Nigeria but ahead on goal difference.
