AFCON 2025: Sudan FA president dines with players before epic Equatorial Guinea match

Ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group E match versus Equatorial Guinea, Mutasim Jaafar Sir Al-Khatim, president of the Sudanese Football Association, hosted a team dinner for the Falcons of Jediane.

Sudan plays Equatorial Guinea on Sunday at Stade Mohammed Vin Casablanca to improve after a rough start.

Head coach Kwasi Appiah and his team are preparing for their first victory, coinciding with the federation president’s gesture.

The Falcons of Jediane lost 3-0 to Algeria in their first AFCON match, putting pressure on them for the rest of the group stage. The goal of the dinner was to boost morale, unite the team, and restore confidence for the upcoming game.

The team’s preparation was disrupted by internal issues, including unpaid bonuses and threats of a boycott.

Since then, Mutasim Jaafar has sought to ease tensions, promising to settle all unpaid dues to the team. The commitment represents a major stride following months of frustration over late bonuses from both the Arab Cup and AFCON.

Sudan must get a positive result against Equatorial Guinea to keep their knockout hopes alive before their final group match against Burkina Faso on December 31.
