Philadelphia Union annihilated DC United 6-0 in their MLS game played over the weekend.
Indiana Vassilev, the midfielder, scored twice, in both halves, leading to a strong team performance. Uhre and Iloski each had a goal and two assists, combining for three goal contributions apiece, as the Union’s attackers combined for all six goals.
Philly’s win gives them their eighth road victory and ties their win record at 19.
The Philadelphia Union will host New York City FC in Chester on Saturday, October 4th, for a rivalry match at Subaru Park. It’s the last regular home game for the team and the fan-favorite “U Thank U” match by Independence Blue Cross.
In their last nine matches versus DC United, the Union’s record is 7-0-2, with 36 goals scored and only three conceded. The Union has scored 58 goals and gone 13-3-3 against their southern rivals in 19 meetings since DC United’s Audi Field opened. This is their second victory against DC, 6-0 at Audi Field, having achieved the same result in 2022, with a 7-0 victory in Chester.
Indiana Vassilev scored two goals. Uhre, subbing in for Sullivan in the 12th minute, scored, caused an own goal, and assisted twice. Milan Iloski scored and assisted on three other goals. Bruno Damiani scored and assisted, making it his third goal in four games.
DC had early possession, and Jared Stroud’s shots hit the woodwork twice as they overcame initial difficulties before the game became one-sided. The game changed because Uhre came in and Iloski controlled the ball, which DC, last in the East, couldn’t handle.
“The guys executed really well,” Carnell said. “The spaces were there. We’ve been trying to play through a little bit too much for our liking. It was good to get on the move again and in behind. And when you have a guy like Mikael on the team and a guy like Bruno holding up the play and battling and occupying two center backs, and then all of a sudden, Mikael slips off your shoulder and he’s gone in behind. It brings a different depth and a dimension to our attacking game.”
