Kelvin Yeboah found the net for the second consecutive match, sparking Minnesota United to a spirited victory over FC Cincinnati in the new MLS season.
The Ghanaian-Italian forward soared above defenders to head home after the hour mark, sealing Minnesota’s narrow triumph in a thrilling clash at Allianz Field.
With the first half ending scoreless, United won a freekick on the edge of the box. Tomas Chancalay’s strike rattled the upright, and Yeboah pounced on the rebound with a decisive header.
‘To be honest, I wanted to take the freekick because I scored from that position in the Leagues Cup game but you know Joaquin Pareyra and Tomas have been practicing freekicks so I just said okay you guys can take it. But I guess it was a goal that was suppose to come to me,” said Yeboah.
Carrying the legacy of his uncle, Ghanaian legend Tony Yeboah, Kelvin began the season in style by netting a dramatic late equalizer in the opener against Austin.
Now with two goals in as many games, Yeboah is fueling Minnesota’s unbeaten run at the start of the season.
Yeboah remains eligible to represent Ghana at the senior level despite playing for Italy’s youth national teams.
