Antoine Griezmann is going to Major League Soccer, and Orlando City SC is close to signing the Atlético Madrid forward.
The French World Cup winner is said to have been given permission to go to Orlando on his days off to finish the deal. The proposed contract would run through the 2027–28 season, with the option to extend for another year. He is likely to wear the No. 7 shirt.
After weeks of talks, the transfer finally happened. Orlando had hoped to get him there sooner at first. Griezmann, on the other hand, chose to stay with Atlético for a short time while the team tried to win the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
Griezmann, Atlético’s all-time leading scorer with more than 200 goals, has said he would like to play in MLS before. If the move goes through, he would be one of the league’s biggest stars, along with Lionel Messi and Son Heung-min.
The 34-year-old would be a key part of Orlando City’s rebuilding after a rough start to the season. The team wants to add experience to a squad that is mostly made up of young players.
