D.C. United have welcomed veteran goalkeeper Sean Johnson to their squad after securing his free-agent signature, with a contract that runs until June 2027.
With over 400 MLS regular-season appearances, the 36-year-old brings a wealth of experience from his recent years at Toronto FC, as well as memorable runs with Chicago Fire FC and New York City FC, where he lifted the 2021 MLS Cup.
Johnson has represented the US men’s national team on the world stage, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and has earned 13 caps, with his latest appearance coming at the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup.
“Sean’s a seasoned, reliable goalkeeper with a history of top performances,” stated Dr. Erkut Sogut, D.C. United’s managing director of soccer operations.
“He brings valuable international experience, having represented the US men’s national team, and his leadership and competitive mentality will elevate our entire team.
“Sean is a proven winner, having won the 2021 MLS Cup with New York City, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Black-and-Red family.”
