D.C. United shares honors with F.C Montreal

D.C. United extended their unbeaten streak in the 2025 MLS season with a goalless draw against Montreal, marking their first clean sheet since March 2024.

This is Montreal’s first point since the start of the season, having played four games without a win.
Three key moments involving Kim Joon Hong (D.C.) and Jonathan Sirois (CF Montreal) were pivotal in Saturday night’s scoreless draw at Audi Field during the United game. The two goalkeepers made considerable saves to keep their teams in the game.
Twice, in the 13th and 25th minutes, Fabian Herbers, a thorn in D.C. United’s side, hit the woodwork, much to the relief of D.C. United’s supporters. VAR overturned a 27th-minute goal from United’s Christian Benteke, a left-footed strike after winning an aerial duel, because of a handball call. On the night, referee Guido Gonzales Jr. handed out eight yellow cards, three to D.C. United and five to the visiting team, FC Montreal.

Montreal, meanwhile, had some scoring chances but posed little threat to D.C. United keeper Kim Joon-Hong. South Korea’s goalkeeper thwarted their best scoring opportunity, first blocking a Bryce Duke free kick and then denying Prince Owusu’s rebound in the 75th minute.
Though CF Montreal improved as the game progressed, they remained scoreless, extending their goalless streak. They conceded their final goal in the 71st minute during their season opener, a 3-2 loss versus Atlanta United on February 22nd.
