The Black Stars will receive GH¢150 million for their 2026 World Cup preparations this summer, according to Ernest Norgbey, Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports.
The Black Stars will compete in their fifth World Cup, facing Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.
Mr. Norgbey told Citi Sports that the funds are intended to ensure the team is well prepared for the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
“Well, when you talk of funding, the government has allocated about GH¢150 million for the preparation as we speak now,” he said.
He noted that although FIFA is expected to provide financial assistance, those funds may be delayed, potentially delaying timely coverage of pre-tournament expenses.
“But we still need funding because, yes, we know that FIFA will be giving us some amount of money, but that amount of money will not come before even the preparation,” he noted.
The team will play Germany and Austria during the upcoming international break as part of their preparations, although the specific allocation of the funds has not been disclosed.
Ghana’s first match is against Panama on June 17, 2026, followed by a game against England on June 23. Their final group stage match is against Croatia, scheduled for June 27.
