WORLD CUP 2026: Queiroz: We’ll fight to win against England

Carlos Queiroz is encouraging confidence and discipline as Ghana get ready for one of the key Group L matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against England.

The Black Stars started their campaign with a tough 1-0 win over Panama, thanks to Caleb Yirenkyi’s dramatic goal in stoppage time. This result showed the resilience and determination that Queiroz has worked to build in his team.

Now, the focus is on Tuesday’s match against England. England started their tournament with a 4-2 win over Croatia but showed some defensive weaknesses that Ghana will try to take advantage of.

The veteran Portuguese coach, who is the most experienced manager at this World Cup, has told his players to welcome the challenge instead of being afraid of it.

“To suffer and play. We have to suffer; there is no other way. We must be ready to make sacrifices. You have to be ready to pay the price because a win at this World Cup is very expensive. But the boys are ready to pay that price,” Queiroz said.

During his coaching career, Queiroz has become known for building well-organized teams that can frustrate even the best opponents with discipline, structure, and tactical awareness.

These qualities will be important against an England team full of talent and attacking strength.

With experienced players like Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Antoine Semenyo, Kamaldeen Sulemana, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Ghana has the quality and leadership needed to take on the Three Lions.

The Black Stars will play England on June 23, then finish their Group L matches against Croatia on June 27.

A victory over England would give Ghana a much better chance of reaching the knockout stage. Queiroz is confident his players are ready to make the sacrifices needed for another memorable World Cup result.
