The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is seeing a decline in officiating, according to George Afriyie, former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association.
Fan attendance initially saw a positive uptick, but recent controversial refereeing decisions have tarnished the mood, prompting widespread criticism from football figures.
Afriyie, in a conversation with Asempa FM, recognized the strong start to the season but voiced worries about how it has progressed lately.
“The Premier League started very well, and attendance increased at the various venues, but the allegations and poor officiating have soiled the integrity of the league, and it is worrying and concerning.
“I’m not going to judge the league, but the people managing it need to be more proactive and make ethical decisions.”
“I think that the GFA should consider changing the Chairman or Chairperson of the Referees Management Committee as part of the solution to dealing with poor officiating,” he added.
Even amid the controversy, the matchday 21 games are going ahead as planned at all stadiums.
