Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has voiced his opposition to reports that Carlos Queiroz may continue as head coach of the Black Stars after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz was appointed on a short-term contract following Otto Addo’s departure and led Ghana to the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010. The Black Stars exited in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 loss to Colombia.
Despite the team’s progress, reports indicate the Ghana Football Association is considering extending Queiroz’s contract as preparations begin for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Tagoe, however, believes retaining Queiroz would be a mistake, stating that his tactical approach does not suit the Black Stars.
“Keeping coach Carlos Queiroz is a waste of time. I am not okay with his tactics. Ghana football is not about defending,” the former Hearts of Oak striker told Adom TV.
The former Black Stars forward, who played for Ghana at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, also questioned Queiroz’s ability to achieve greater success with the national team.
“I don’t think he will take us far,” Tagoe added.
Attention now shifts to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana has been drawn in Group C with Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia, aiming to return to the tournament after missing the 2025 edition.
