Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has rubbished reports linking him with a return to the Ghana national team, insisting the claims are completely false.
Speculation in Ghana earlier this week suggested the former Black Stars coach was due in Accra on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, for talks with President John Dramani Mahama over the vacant head coach position.
However, Appiah has firmly denied the reports. “It’s not true. I am in Saudi Arabia to monitor some Sudanese players,” he told Ghanasoccernet.com
The rumours emerged following the Ghana Football Association’s decision to dismiss Otto Addo on Monday, just two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo was relieved of his duties after consecutive international friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, prompting the GFA to begin the search for a new head coach ahead of the global showpiece.
Appiah, who guided Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, has been mentioned among possible candidates. He was sacked in 2015 but re-appointed in 2017. However, a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign in 2019 ultimately led to his exit.
