Sudan earned their first points in the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on Sunday thanks to a late own goal.
This is their first win since 2012, boosting their chances in the 2025 tournament after Saul Coco’s own goal in Casablanca resulted in Equatorial Guinea’s second Group E loss.
The team is now likely to advance after securing their first Afcon win, following qualifiers played elsewhere.

Equatorial Guinea’s National Thunder must upset Algeria in their third group game, following their last-minute loss to Burkina Faso, to equal their 2023 last-16 performance.
With 16 minutes left, Coco’s cross beat Owono, ending Sudan’s winless streak.
Sudan will join Burkina Faso and Algeria, who all have three points, after playing Burkina Faso on Wednesday and Algeria on Sunday.
Equatorial Guinea plays Les Fennecs in Rabat on Wednesday, and National Thunder needs a win to advance.
