Asante Kotoko’s coach, Abdul Karim Zito, is still hopeful his team will overcome the loss against Wydad Casablanca next weekend.
Asante Kotoko lost 1-0 to the Moroccan team in the initial match of the CAF Confederation Cup’s second preliminary round, which was held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Wydad won thanks to Joseph Bakasu’s second-half goal, ahead of the next match.
After the match, Zito told reporters he was sad about the result, but his team is still a contender.
“If someone had told me I would lose to Wydad, I would have said no. This is football; sometimes, certain things happen beyond your control. Some mistakes affected us, but it’s not all over. Anything can happen when we go there. We’re not going as losers; we’re going to fight and play well,” he said.
Zito urged the club’s fans to keep the faith and support the team as they head to Morocco for the crucial match.
“It’s two games. We’ve lost the first one, but they can also lose at their home. Some situations in football are not impossible. The fans should be patient and wait for what happens in Morocco.”
Karim Zito’s away game record in the CAF Confederation Cup is excellent. His team’s recent victory against Kwara United has increased his unbeaten away streak in the tournament to eight matches. The former Dreams FC coach’s away game performances in the tournament remain impressive.
Later this week, Asante Kotoko will travel to Morocco for their second-leg preparations.
The return leg is scheduled for Friday, October 24, 2025 in Morocco.
