The Ghana coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, said he was proud of the Black Queens’ performance following their 2-0 loss to England, noting progress.
Six minutes into the game at St Mary’s Stadium, Ghana conceded, and Lucia Kendall scored from close range after reacting quickest to a loose ball.
Ghana kept it tight before halftime, as England dominated possession, made chances, and hit the woodwork several times.
Russo converted a penalty in stoppage time, after a handball, securing the victory for the Lionesses.
Following the game, Bjorkegren commended his team’s performance and requested understanding.
“As a coach, you always want to win,” he said. “But we are 67th in the world and faced a team that may be the best in the world right now. We can be proud of our performance, and we feel we are moving in the right direction.”
The Black Queens are now focused on the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled from March 17 to April 3.
