Ghana’s Struggles Increase Pressure on Otto Addo Before World Cup

Ghana head coach Otto Addo is facing more criticism after a run of poor results has raised new questions about the Black Stars’ readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana had a tough international window, losing 2-0 to Japan, 1-0 to South Korea, and 5-1 to Austria. These results are worrying because all three teams have already qualified for the World Cup, showing the level of competition Ghana will face at the tournament.

Recent games have shown ongoing issues, especially in defense, team chemistry, and keeping up performance against strong teams. These problems could become even more obvious in the group stage, where Ghana will play Panama, Croatia, and England.

Before these matches, the Ghana Football Association added Desmond Ofei, Alain Ravera, and Kim Lars Björkegren as assistant coaches. Kris Perquy joined the team as a team psychologist, and José Daniel Martínez Alonso became the performance analyst. So far, these changes have not led to better results on the field.

Although Addo led Ghana through World Cup qualification, there are still doubts about whether he can help the team compete with top opponents as the tournament approaches.

Attention now turns to the friendly against Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026. Another big loss would increase the pressure on the coach, but a good performance could help restore confidence and momentum before the World Cup.
