Ghana was good at winning the ball – England manager Sarina Wiegman

England manager Sarina Wiegman stated that Ghana gave a strong physical challenge in Tuesday’s 2-0 friendly victory at St Mary’s Stadium, with the European champions finishing the year on a high.
After the match, Wiegman spoke to ITV, noting England’s scoring potential and Ghana’s intense duels.
“Ghana were strong in the duels, and we wanted runs in the half spaces and get numbers in the box,” she said. “We had some big opportunities. We weren’t that lucky at moments either.”
England had several chances, with four shots against the woodwork, but they had to earn their opening goal. Lucia Kendall scored in the sixth minute, and Alessia Russo scored a penalty late on.
Wiegman highlighted that improving attack connection is a key point, alongside another impressive display.
“A lot of other players, and we know as individuals they are excellent, but we have to make these connections again,” she added. “I hoped we would score more. If we had taken the chances better, it would have been more than this.”
England starts its World Cup journey in March against Ukraine and Iceland.
