Ghana’s pursuit of a new Black Stars head coach is nearing completion, with an official announcement expected within the week, according to Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams.
The senior national team has not had a permanent head coach since Otto Addo was dismissed after the March friendlies against Austria and Germany.
In an interview on Channel One TV, the Buem MP said the recruitment process is almost complete, and the Ghana Football Association will announce the new coach soon.
“If the coach is not announced by the weekend, then by Monday at the latest, we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he stated.
Adams also said he is confident in Ghana’s potential, stressing that the team has what it takes to compete at the top level.
“We have what it takes to go very far, possibly even win the World Cup. Let’s stay hopeful,” he added.
Several experienced managers have been mentioned for the job, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos.
The new coach is expected to start before a pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico in May.
Ghana is in Group L for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They will play Panama on June 17, England on June 23, and Croatia on June 27.
The Black Stars hope to do better than their recent World Cup runs, which ended in the group stage in 2014 and 2022.
