Ghana’s World Cup dreams have taken a heavy hit, with AS Monaco confirming that star defender Mohammed Salisu will miss the rest of the season due to a devastating knee injury.
The Ghana international suffered an ACL injury in his left knee late in the 3-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais, the Ligue 1 club said.
Additional tests confirmed the worst, ruling Salisu out for months. Monaco has pledged unwavering support as their centre-back begins the long road to recovery.
The night went from bad to worse for Monaco, who not only slipped in their European campaign but also saw more key players join the injury list. Salisu’s setback was the hardest blow, especially as he was filling in for the absent Christian Mawissa and Eric Dier.
Monaco has suffered a second ACL injury in consecutive games, after Takumi Minamino’s similar injury against AJ Auxerre before the winter break.
This news has sent shockwaves through Ghanaian football, casting doubt on Salisu’s participation in the World Cup. With England, Croatia, and Panama awaiting in the group stage, Ghana needs every star fit to chase glory.
