After an uncontested re-election at the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt, Dr Patrice Motsepe will serve a second four-year term as President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Following numerous requests from CAF member association presidents and key football stakeholders, Motsepe, initially hesitant about another term, confirmed his re-election bid in October 2024.
After his re-election, Motsepe emphasized the continued goals of enhancing the competitiveness of African football internationally, solidifying its finances, and investing in infrastructure to foster the success of teams and players.
Since assuming his role in 2021, the South African businessman has led CAF’s financial recovery following the loss of its $1 billion TV rights contract with Lagardère. Under his leadership, CAF cleared its debts, increased prize money, and improved financial support for member associations.
His tenure included the highly successful Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, a tournament that attracted 2 billion viewers worldwide and yielded a $72 million profit for CAF.
Motsepe replaced the banned Ahmad Ahmad and has been instrumental in FIFA’s efforts to restore trust and order in African football.
