Ghana’s Black Satellites fought back to draw 1-1 with Burkina Faso in their second Group B match at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, on Thursday.
After losing their first game to Nigeria, the Black Satellites showed determination at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium. Joseph Badu scored the equaliser after Ghana went behind, helping the team secure an important point.
With the draw, Ghana is now third in Group B with one point from two matches. They now face a must-win final group game against Togo.
Beating Togo is crucial for the Black Satellites to finish the tournament well and build momentum for future games. Although the WAFU B U-20 Championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana already has automatic qualification as hosts of next year’s tournament.
Still, this competition is an important part of the team’s preparations. It gives players valuable experience, helps build team chemistry, and allows coaches to evaluate the squad before hosting Africa’s top youth football tournament in 2027.
