Ghanaian coach Laryea Kingston has been named head coach of all Ugandan men’s junior football teams by FUFA for a two-year term.
FUFA CEO Edgar Watson announced it in Kampala on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, emphasizing the federation’s dedication to enhancing youth football.
The ex-Ghana International, now a seasoned football pundit, will return to the tournament as Uganda’s coach, 24 years after playing in the U-17 FIFA World Cup.
Kingston, who once managed Ghana’s U-17 team, was revealed by the Ugandan FA in Kampala earlier today.
Kingston will also coach the Under-15 and Under-20 national teams, adding to his responsibilities.
“This is a vision that is materialising in stages. First, I wanted to play there, and it happened. Now, I want to go back to that stage as a coach, and it’s happening. It’s an opportunity to bring the young players together to achieve something,” he told Joy Sports.
Having played for Ghana’s senior team 41 times, Kingston provides Uganda with significant experience, including his time at two major Ghanaian clubs. He played for the CAF Champions League and Super Cup champions, Accra Hearts of Oak and former Ghana Premier League Champions, Great Olympics.
“Over the years, I’ve gained experience and want to credit Right to Dream Academy and its founder, Tom Vernon. He saw potential in me and urged me to chase it. I’m happy now that I made that decision today. “
At the Right to Dream Academy, Kingston coached the U-18 team, marking the start of his journey. Between 2023 and 2024, he was the head coach of the Black Starlets, Ghana’s under-17 male team. After stepping away from the role midway through the 2024 WAFU Zone B tournament, he took a brief break before being appointed head coach by Rush Point Academy in Florida, USA.
He has also served as a television pundit for major networks, including the Broadcast of Euro 2020 by Joy Prime Channel at the Multimedia Group, AFCON by Super Sport DSTV, and the then Joy Sports Channel on Multi TV.
