Black Stars’ Vice Chairman, Stephen Appiah, is confident Ghana will qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
Back-to-back victories over Chad and Madagascar boosted the four-time African champions’ qualification chances for the upcoming North American tournament.
Ghana decisively beat Chad 5-0 in Accra, then Madagascar 3-0 in Morocco.
With 15 points, the Black Stars lead Group I, with four matches remaining in qualifying.
On Citi FM’s TotalEnergies Auto Show, former Black Stars captain Appiah, who guided the team to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, expressed optimism about their qualification prospects following recent matches.
“For what I saw against Chad and Madagascar and the friendlies, the Unity Cup that we played in the UK against Nigeria and Trinidad, it has given me a lot of hope because the new players who came showed themselves well,” he said.
Appiah added that while he believes they have four games left to play, the calculations don’t rule out qualification.
Ghana’s Black Stars will reconvene in September for matches against Chad and Mali (Match days 7 and 8), concluding the qualifiers against Comoros and CAR in October.
I have no doubt Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 World Cup – Stephen Appiah
