Fecafoot President Samuel Eto’o joins CAF Executive

Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), was unanimously elected to CAF’s Executive Committee in Cairo on March 12, 2025, as the sole Central African candidate.

A significant highlight of Wednesday’s Cairo events was Eto’o’s election to CAF’s leadership.

Eto’o won his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport last week, overturning CAF’s January ruling that barred him from candidacy.

FIFA and CAF banned the 44-year-old ex-Cameroonian striker last year for breaking the rules.

A CAF investigation into his betting company ambassadorship deemed a breach of ethics and integrity, resulting in a ban.

However, a successful appeal led to overturning the ban and fine.

Upon announcing their election, the delegates warmly greeted Eto’o and the five newly elected CAF Executive Committee members.

Eto’o’s time as head of Fecafoot, beginning in December 2021, has not been without controversy.

He was banned from Cameroon games for six matches last September, and some former international teammates have criticized his leadership style. One of whom called him a “dictator” for handling Marc Brys’s appointment as head coach of the Indomitable Lions.
