In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Union Berlin left-back and newly capped Black Stars defender Derrick Kohn is excited for Ghana’s March friendly against Germany.
Due to his German upbringing, Kohn views his Ghanaian heritage differently. In a 3Sports interview, Kohn emphasized his excitement and match aims.

Kohn expressed his enthusiasm for Ghanaian fans attending the friendly.
“I’m excited [friendly against Germany]. I texted the Black Stars team manager that I need 100 tickets if I’m in the squad. I need many tickets.”
He noted that his German friends were interested in the match, emphasizing its personal significance.
“The whole of Germany is texting me, ‘Please make it happen, we’ll come.'” I knew the Germans would arrive, therefore I wanted to show them Ghana was there.”
Kohn views this friendly as more than a game. He spoke while contemplating the challenge:
I’m powerful, so we try to beat Germany. I also dream of this. But the game will be good. Let’s prepare well for the World Cup, play well, and see what happens.”
He combines European methods with Ghanaian enthusiasm because he grew up in Germany. He wants to play for Germany because of his background and fans.
Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup and friendlies depend on Derrick Kohn. In the March encounter, he can shine, gel with the team, and help the Black Stars prepare for the World Cup. Kohn sees it as a showing of pride, ambition, and individuality, not just friendliness.
