2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Black Stars want to make Ghanaians proud against Chad and Madagascar—Stephen Appiah

Black Stars Vice Chairman Stephen Appiah guarantees the team’s commitment to making Ghanaians proud in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Criticism and backlash have followed the senior national team’s failure to score in the 2025 AFCON tournament, resulting in a last-place finish in their group.

With only two wins in 2024, the Black Stars will face Chad and Madagascar in 2025 qualifiers for the first time.

Appiah, instrumental in Ghana’s World Cup qualification for 2006 and 2010, voiced his confidence in the team’s preparation and determination to represent Ghana proudly in a pre-games interview.

“I was proud to see our president [John Mahama] come visit the players yesterday, and he gave some words of encouragement to the players and told them it is not about NDC or NPP, but the players should play their hearts out,” he told Asempa FM.

“From everything, President Mahama told the players, I believe they are determined and ready to make Ghanaians proud against Chad and Madagascar.”

Appiah appealed to fans to come out in force to support the team in Friday’s game against the Chadians.

“We need the fans to show up in their numbers to support the team. We should come together and support the team, and I believe the team will surely win.”

Ghana’s Black Stars face Chad in Accra on Friday at 7 PM GMT, then Madagascar on Monday at Morocco’s Al Hoceima Grand Stadium.
