The Sports Ministry settles former Black Stars coach C.K. Akonnor $120,000.

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has settled its $120,000 debt to former Black Stars coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor, resolving a long-standing salary disagreement.
Akonnor’s 21-month tenure, from January 2020 to September 2021, involved receiving partial payments. Akonnor has received the full amount owed to him.
Joy Sports documents show Akonnor’s assistant, David Duncan, also got $40,000 in back pay, a big step in settling Black Stars staff debt.
The difficult period of unpaid coaches during major international competitions is now resolved with these payments.
Ghana’s 1-0 loss to South Africa in World Cup qualifying led to Akonnor’s dismissal. His dismissal occurred while the Black Stars were in third position in Group G, with a total of three points from two matches played.
Ghana’s qualification for the Qatar World Cup was secured under the leadership of Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac, who took over the team later in the qualifying process.
