The Black Queens’ coach, Kim Lars Björkegren, feels his players rightfully qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals.
Ghana’s 4-1 victory over Tanzania on July 14th secured their spot in the tournament’s quarterfinals.
Following a 2-0 loss to South Africa and a 1-1 tie against Mali, the Black Queens had a disappointing start to the tournament.
Björkegren, in a post-game interview following their qualifying win, maintained that his team had earned their spot in the knockout stage.
“Ghana missed the knockout stages the last time that they played [in 2018 at home], and we have now made it past the group stages,” the Swiss trainer told CAF Media.
“The result is very important to us. We shall take it all in now because the players deserve this. They showed that they can stay true to our style and win,” he added.
