Ghana’s Black Galaxies miss CHAN after losing to Nigeria

Ghana’s Black Galaxies suffered a disheartening 3-1 defeat to Nigeria in the second leg of the CHAN qualifier, ending their tournament hopes.
Following a scoreless draw in the first leg in Accra, Ghana needed a win to qualify for the tournament. Nigeria, however, immediately took control, surprising the Galaxies with three quick first-half goals.
Ismaila Sodiq broke the deadlock at 19 minutes, with Nduka Junior and Isaac Saviour adding goals at 22 and 25 minutes. Ghana’s defensive errors and lack of coordination were costly, leaving them unable to overcome the early deficit.
A composed 73rd-minute finish by Stephen Amankona got one back for Ghana, but it did not fuel a comeback. Nigeria won 3-1 last night, advancing to the CHAN tournament with a 3-1 aggregate win.
Ghana’s Black Galaxies failed to qualify for the 2025 CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, ending their campaign on a disappointing note. Following their promising 2023 CHAN performance, the team’s lack of progress has raised concerns among fans and stakeholders about the squad’s future trajectory.
Nigeria’s victory was a powerful declaration of their ambitions and further solidified their reputation in African football. Ghana will now concentrate on recovery and tackling the problems causing their qualification failure.
