Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu urges Ghanaians to show patience with head coach Otto Addo’s rebuilding efforts.
In a recent Akoma 87.9 FM interview, Konadu analyzed the passionate yet volatile nature of Ghanaian football fans, focusing on the team’s recent AFCON failures.
“Ghanaians adore football; when things go well, they lavish praise on you; when things go wrong, the country becomes split, and that is how the game has sadly become,” he noted.
After missing the AFCON tournament for the first time in 20 years, Otto Addo is beginning to rebuild public confidence following a disappointing qualifying campaign.
With wins against Chad (5-0) and Madagascar (3-0), the Black Stars’ coach maintained his undefeated streak in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, significantly boosting Ghana’s qualification chances.
“We simply need to be patient occasionally (Otto Addo), but how many individuals can be patient? Today’s generation will not be patient with you,” Konadu added.
The former Kotoko head coach expects continued positive results to alleviate pressure on the current coach.
Ghana will participate in a four-nation tournament in July, then play crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in September.
Fifteen points puts the four-time AFCON champions at the top of Group I, three points clear of Comoros.
Ghanaians should be patient with Otto Addo, Maxwell Konadu says.
