Ghana’s government cleared all past-due salaries for Black Stars’ current and former technical staff, a significant step toward enhancing the team’s professionalism and reputation.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation under the Honorable. Kofi Iddie Adams is keeping a promise made by John Dramani Mahama’s administration to make Ghana’s sports sector more equitable and transparent.
For extended periods, coaches who worked during vital national team qualifiers and tournaments went without pay.
Chris Hughton and C.K. are among the former head coaches receiving payments as part of the compensation package. Akonnor, along with assistant coaches George Boateng, Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Maxwell Konadu.
Otto Addo’s technical team also received payments for back pay from October 2024 to March 2025.
This action resulted from a detailed audit and inter-agency coordination designed to ensure a fair and transparent disbursement.
The Sports Minister explained that this action shows respect for national service, improves accountability and professionalism in sports, and goes beyond simply settling debts.
The ministry’s plans include establishing a National Sports Fund to ensure a steady income for the country’s athletes.
