Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe: Nyantakyi could have been FIFA’s first black president

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, a board member of Hearts of Oak, believes that the fallout from the Anas exposé derailed Kwesi Nyantakyi’s potential to become the first black president of FIFA.
During an interview with Starr FM, Dr Tamakloe remarked that had it not been for the Anas exposé, Nyantakyi could have made history as the first black man to preside over FIFA.
As President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi played a major role in African football and held influential positions in FIFA and CAF.
Following the release of journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s 2018 investigative piece, Nyantakyi’s career took a dramatic shift, a shift that was largely due to the extensive corruption exposed in Ghanaian football.
The exposé, titled “Number 12,” revealed how Nyantakyi was caught accepting a $65,000 bribe from undercover journalists masquerading as businessmen.
The revelations caused him to step down from all football-related roles and receive a lifetime ban from FIFA.
Dr. Tamakloe expressed his disappointment over the missed opportunity for Africa to have a significant representation in global football administration, a potential that was lost due to Nyantakyi’s downfall.
He highlighted how Nyantakyi’s possible leadership position in FIFA would be significant for African soccer.
