The Black Satellites’ head coach, Desmond Ofei, will resign following the WAFU B Championship.
Ofei will thereafter devote his talents to Ghana’s senior national squad, the Black Stars. In an effort to enhance performance, the GFA has announced significant coaching changes for some of its national teams.
Aimed at streamlining roles and resolving scheduling conflicts within the national team calendar, these strategic decisions form part of a wider technical restructuring plan.
Key staff changes include Coach Desmond Ofei, who’s now solely assisting Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo, rather than also coaching the Black Satellites. Following his success leading the Black Satellites to the upcoming WAFU A & B U20 Championships, Ofei will focus solely on the Black Stars.
The U20 AFCON quarterfinals saw Ofei’s Black Satellites eliminated by Egypt, the tournament hosts. This loss eliminated Ghana from contention for a place in the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Alternatively, Desmond’s Black Stars involvement shows promise, highlighted by a successful March Internationals, where Ghana dominated Chad and Madagascar in 2026 World Cup qualifiers, marking his first senior national team appearance.
Ofei’s expertise and experience will be used to boost Ghana’s senior national team’s performance and teamwork in this anticipated move.
The GFA plans to restructure its technical framework to improve national team development, providing each team with focused support.
The GFA’s commitment to a better Ghanaian football landscape and international success is clear from these reassignments. These changes will streamline and improve national team management, positively impacting Ghana’s football future.
