Coach Otto Addo praised the Black Stars’ second-half tenacity despite losing 2-1 to Nigeria.

Despite losing 2-1 to Nigeria in the 2025 Unity Cup semifinal, Black Stars coach Otto Addo praised his team’s improved second-half performance at London’s GTech Community Stadium.
Ghana trailed at the break, conceding goals from a Cyriel Dessers’s clinical strike and a Razak Simpson own goal. The Black Stars, however, fought back after halftime; substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante scoring with a fine volley to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute.
In a post-match press conference, Addo expressed his satisfaction with the team’s second-half performance and the potential of some players.
“The second half was really good, I have to say. Though we lost, I’m happy about the second half. We saw some talents… we saw some players really be positive, and I’m looking forward to seeing them again,” he remarked.
Missing several key internationals, Addo’s team blended youth and experience, providing opportunities for debutants and less prominent players. Despite Ghana’s elimination, their coach sees their performance as a strong base for future World Cup qualifiers.
The third-place playoff on Saturday features Ghana versus Trinidad & Tobago, and the final match is between Nigeria and Jamaica.
