Former Okaikwei South MP Nana Akomea has expressed disappointment with the custom of dismissing Black Stars coaches following subpar results.
Under the leadership of Kurt Okraku, the Ghana Football Association is now on its fifth coach since taking over the management of Ghanaian football, including a second term for Otto Addo.
Following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON, a call for Otto Addo’s dismissal has gained momentum.
The Ghana Football Association will decide Otto Addo’s future on November 27th, 2024, after Wednesday’s review meeting ended without a conclusion. The Executive Council couldn’t decide whether to keep the coach or not.
“Any sign of trouble, we change the coach to bring in another coach and then we get into trouble again,” Nana Akomea told Joy FM.
“So I believe we should maintain the coach to lead us into the qualifiers. If that one too, we end the cycle without qualification, then we can take a decision.”
The Black Stars will face Chad and Madagascar in the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and they need wins to maintain control of their qualification destiny.
Ghana has three wins and one loss in Group I, earning them 9 points and a tie for first place. Two of those wins came under Otto Addo, the only wins during his second term as coach.
