Xabi Alonso believes Real Madrid will overcome its struggles with his player support

Xabi Alonso showered praise on his players’ attitude after another loss and said Real Madrid would recover soon.

Madrid was defeated 2-1 by Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, now with just two wins in its last eight games overall.

“They played their hearts out, and I have no complaints. I have a lot of respect for their attitude. “We must continue,” Alonso stated. The results aren’t as good as we hoped for right now”.

“We’re critical, we demand a lot of ourselves, and we understand the fans. We have to keep working hard. We believe we’ll get through this because everything passes, and I’m convinced we can do it.”

The crowd at the Santiago Bernabéu booed Alonso after the outcome, which increased criticism.

“We can understand why they whistle, and we have to accept it as normal because the demands here are so high,” Alonso said. “We want to turn things around, improve our mental and physical condition, and get the injured players back. There’s still a long way to go.”

Spanish media claims Alonso and some players have issues, but players defended him after the loss.

Thibaut Courtois and Raúl Asencio said the team was united and in support of Alonso. Rodrygo’s sideline hug with Alonso after his goal was to demonstrate player solidarity with the coach, he said.

Alonso mentioned that criticism is common for coaches at a club like Madrid.

“You have to live with it, and when you’re the coach of Real Madrid, you have to be prepared to face it bravely, responsibly and self-critically, knowing that things can change,” Alonso said. “Despite the result, I’ve seen positive things individually and collectively. Other things haven’t gone so well, but we’re still in it.”

Madrid plays Alaves in the Spanish league on Sunday, and they are four points behind Barcelona after 16 matches.
