Despite Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-final exit to Barcelona (5-3 aggregate), Serhou Guirassy made African Champions League history with his goals.
Serhou Guirassy took charge and single-handedly revived Dortmund against a lackluster Barcelona with a hat-trick.
The Guinean international netted his first penalty in the first half, then headed in a second goal two minutes into the second half.
With only 15 minutes left on the clock, the slender forward added another goal to his hat-trick with an expert finish near the Barcelona goal.
Guirassy’s 13 Champions League goals are the highest this season; he is one goal ahead of Barcelona’s Raphinha.
Guirassy also created history; he’s the first Dortmund player to score 13 Champions League goals in one campaign, surpassing Haaland and Lewandowski’s Lewandowski’s 10 goals.
With 17 goals (13 goals, four assists) in the Champions League this season, Guirassy has broken Salah’s record of 14 for the most by an African player.
Africa’s Champions League single-edition scoring record was shattered by Guirassy (13 goals), surpassing Haller’s (11 goals) 2021/22 record.
This season, Dortmund and Barcelona have played twice—once in the group stage and once in the knockout stage—with Guirassy scoring all of Dortmund’s goals against Barcelona.
The hat-trick signifies that he’s the pioneering African player to achieve this against the Catalans in the Champions League.
