Leverkusen completes the £35 million deal of Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah

Bayer Leverkusen has signed Jarell Quansah, a 22-year-old England Under-21 international defender from Liverpool, on a five-year deal.
The transfer fee could reportedly reach £35 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons. With 58 appearances for Liverpool, including 13 in the Premier League last season, Quansah, a product of the club’s academy, contributed to their title win.
Quansah played a key role in England’s Under-21 European Championship victory this year, proving instrumental to their win. Leverkusen’s Sporting Director, Simon Rolfes, is thrilled that they signed Quansah, emphasizing his energy, speed, and strong tackling.

This move is part of Leverkusen’s extensive rebuilding plan overseen by their new coach, Erik ten Hag, who took over from Xabi Alonso following his move to Real Madrid. Bayern Munich beat Leverkusen to win the Bundesliga last season.
Liverpool recently purchased Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from the club, paying £100 million for Wirtz plus an additional possible £16 million in bonuses.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool could use the money from selling Quansah to purchase Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, given the uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate.
Liverpool cleverly included a buy-back option in Quansah’s transfer, enabling them to potentially re-sign him later.
