Ghanaian teenager Taufik Seidu made his first appearance for Atletico Madrid’s senior team in their 2-1 loss to Barcelona on Saturday night.
The 18-year-old has trained with Diego Simeone’s senior squad since the start of the 2025/26 season and finally got his chance at the Metropolitano.
Atletico made a strong start and took the lead in the 39th minute when Giuliano Simeone scored, exciting the home fans.
Barcelona responded quickly, as Marcus Rashford scored the equalizer three minutes before halftime.
Right before halftime, Nico Gonzalez was sent off for fouling Lamine Yamal, forcing Atletico to play the rest of the match with ten players.
Even with one player less, Atletico defended well and held off Barcelona for most of the second half.
Their resistance ended in the 87th minute when veteran striker Robert Lewandowski came off the bench to seal the win.
Seidu entered the match in the 68th minute, replacing Clement Lenglet, marking an important milestone in his young career.
The Ghanaian midfielder joined Atletico’s academy at age nine after moving from Ghana and is seen as one of the club’s top young talents.
Although Seidu has played for Spain’s youth teams, he remains eligible to play for Ghana, which could be a significant advantage for the Black Stars in the future.
