Borussia Dortmund signed Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland on a deal that runs until June 2030.
Sunderland reported a club-record fee of €32 million (£26.96 million) plus €5 million (£4.2 million) in add-ons.
The Black Cats’ 19-year-old midfielder, who joined in 2023, boasts 90 appearances and played a key role in their Premier League promotion last season.
Having progressed through Birmingham City’s academy, Bellingham played two years of senior football there, launching his career.
Bellingham stated that he is proud to have a strong relationship with Sunderland’s supporters.
“I will always represent Wearside in all that I strive to achieve for the rest of my career, wherever that may be,” he said.
Bellingham’s outstanding performances during Sunderland’s Championship-winning season earned him the young player of the season award.
Bellingham will be eligible to play in the Club World Cup for Dortmund, beginning Sunday, as the transfer will be finalised by June 10th.
Dortmund will play Fluminense, a Brazilian team, in their opening group match on June 17th at 5 PM BST.
The England Under-21 team, competing in Slovakia from June 11th to 28th, includes Bellingham.
However, Head Coach Lee Carsley stated that players will be released to participate in the Club World Cup in the U.S.
Bellingham’s move to the Bundesliga follows his brother Jude’s path; Jude also played three years for Dortmund before his 2023 transfer to Real Madrid.
In his farewell, he told Sunderland fans he hoped he’d made them proud and that they, in turn, had helped him achieve his success.
“I will love and remember you fondly for the rest of my life.”
Dortmund, with eight Bundesliga titles, qualified for the Champions League after finishing fourth last season.
