In response to Mohammed Kudus’ red card in the match against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui has emphasized the need for the player to work on his temper control.
The incident occurred over the weekend, resulting in a 4-1 defeat for the Hammers.
Prior to the upcoming game against Manchester United, Lopetegui addressed Kudus’ actions, emphasizing the importance of improvement and personal growth.
“He (Mohammed Kudus) has to improve his temperament because this can’t happen,” Lopetegui stated.
“I am sure this will be the last time it happens. The only way to handle frustration is to focus on the match because these behaviors can ruin the game. He will learn from this incident, and his behavior will be better in the future.”
After scoring for West Ham, Kudus became upset when Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven challenged him, which caused the incident.
It appeared that Van de Ven intentionally provoked Kudus by making a gesture towards his head, which led to Kudus poking him in the face. He eventually expressed his frustration towards Pape Sarr.
After VAR reviewed the play, Kudus’ initial yellow card was changed to a red, leading to his first sending-off since 2019.
The Ghanaian player is now facing a three-game suspension.
