This season marks the end of Jamie Vardy’s captaincy and time with Leicester City.
Announcing the news on Wednesday, the Foxes described Vardy as “our greatest ever player”.
With 198 goals across 498 appearances (143 in the Premier League alone), the 38-year-old striker, a 2012 signing from Fleetwood Town, holds the club’s all-time Premier League scoring record.ardy scored 24 times in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign, helping Leicester to the first ever top-flight title in their history.
He also played for the England national team and was part of their 2021 FA Cup-winning squad which defeated Chelsea at Wembley 1-0.
In a video shared on social media by Leicester, Vardy said he was heartbroken to leave the fans but knew this day was coming.’ve spent 13 unbelievable years at this club, with lots of success, and some downs, but the majority have all been highs.
Although I’m devastated to end the day, I feel the timing is appropriate.

Leicester City’s chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, commented: “Jamie is incomparable.”
He’s adored by everyone at Leicester City, and I hold him in the highest regard.
He described the Foxes’ season as “miserable” and “a total embarrassment” in the wake of their relegation earlier this month.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side are 19th in the table, having collected 18 points from their 33 matches.
