Sunderland sign Granit Xhaka for €20m from Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen and Sunderland have agreed on Granit Xhaka’s fee.
Media outlets also reported that Sunderland would initially pay £13 million, with an extra £4 million if they fulfilled certain conditions, resulting in an approximate transfer fee of £17 million.
The 32-year-old and Sunderland reached an agreement last week. He’ll sign a three-year contract, bringing valuable midfield experience.
The new Premier League team has increased its bid by £7m, aiming to finalize the agreement, and Xhaka can now travel to the UK for a medical check.

Xhaka scored two goals and provided seven assists in 33 Bundesliga matches last season. Prior to joining Leverkusen, he played 297 games for Arsenal, scoring 23 goals and providing 26 assists.
Erik ten Hag, the Leverkusen manager, spoke last week and implied that Xhaka’s departure was off the table following the transfers of Wirtz, Frimpong, and Tah to Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
The former Man Utd boss stated, “We have already sold three key players from this club.”
“We won’t let go of any more players; that’s not possible. That would neglect the structure and culture of the squad.
“Clearly, Granit is a leader. He signed a five-year contract and has three years remaining. He’s too important for us to let go.”

Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting managing director, said, “Granit has always been a crucial leader, I’ve always said.”
This summer, Sunderland has already brought in six new players, costing £107m.
