Spurs close in on Robertson signing

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Andy Robertson on a free transfer this summer following his impending departure from Liverpool.

Robertson recently confirmed he will leave Anfield after nine years when his contract expires, with Spurs renewing their long-standing interest in the experienced left-back. The North London club had previously attempted to secure his signature in January, but Liverpool declined to sanction a move at the time.

Talks between the parties are said to be progressing well, although a final agreement has not yet been reached. However, any potential deal depends on Tottenham retaining their Premier League status, as they currently sit 18th in the table, two points behind West Ham United in 17th place.

Spurs are keen to bring leadership and experience into the squad ahead of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge, with Robertson identified as a key target.

Meanwhile, club captain Cristian Romero is expected to miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering a knee injury during Sunday’s defeat to Sunderland. Romero was visibly distressed as he was forced off following a collision with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský, and he is now set to miss Tottenham’s final six matches of the season.

The injury could also affect the 27-year-old’s chances of featuring for Argentina at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
